Choose an atoll for what you want to experience there

At Tuamotu, the landscape changes height and pace. Ocean and lagoon draw two close horizons, connected by low lands, villages and motu. This contrast can constitute a strong moment of the journey even without practicing immersion. It invites you to choose a framework in which you will be pleased to stay several days and really slow down.

Rangiroa, Tikehau and Fakarava are not exchangeable names for a beach. The situation of the nights, transfers and the relationship to the village change the stay. The right question is not just “which atoll is the most beautiful?” but “how do we want to spend a day there?” This approach allows you to look at the living environment beyond the only lagoon images.

An atoll for simple days beside the lagoon

A first idea reserves one step to a single atoll. Depending on real possibilities, the days associate discovery of the surroundings of the village, free time and leaving the lagoon. The activities are not presumed included: they will be held according to your desires, your ease and conditions, with their specific organization before confirming the travel plan.

This formula makes a place for those who mostly want to contemplate, read or appreciate the edge of the water. We look at the space around the nights, access to swimming and meals. These concrete elements often influence the stay more than the number of excursions proposed in a brochure or a long list of animals that would be possible to meet.

If the journey begins with the underwater universe, the choice of atoll and sector becomes more specific. Observation from the surface and immersion in bottle do not require the same organization. Rangiroa, between atoll life and wide horizons

Rangiroa can attract those who want to associate lagoon discovery and island life with everyday life. The accommodation sector, the proximity of the village and the means of travel influence the days. Identify what will allow you to discover without depending on a permanently organized outlet, to keep free time that you can really enjoy.

Eventual excursions in the lagoon are discussed according to distances and navigation conditions. A place accessible from the atoll can require a large part of the day. If you prefer short outputs, indicate it before choosing the formula: big horizons don’t always translate into small trips.

Tikehau or Fakarava, two different spirits

Tikehau can inspire a parenthese turned to the sweetness of motus landscapes, beaches and time near the water. Fakarava brings another universe, often associated with the discoveries of the marine environment. Instead of hierarchizing them, compare their place in the journey, the predictable addresses and the days that really try you.

Gathering several atolls is not necessary to appreciate this region. You can stay more on one of them, and then find the relief of a high island. The airlines and transfers determine the order of the night. A day of arrival or departure should not be counted as a full day of discovery of the lagoon.

A base of 3-5 nights on an atoll is a track to slow down. Adding a second atoll requires to look at the connection days.
