Andes, coast and forest: choosing connections between worlds

In Peru, the desert coastline, Andic cities and Amazonian landscapes tell different geographies. To meet them requires an order of steps and time in each environment. The wealth of the journey depends as much on transitions and pace as on the sites listed in the program.

Machu Picchu can be a strong moment without summarizing the country. A walk in Cusco, a sacred Valley market and a gastronomic discovery in Lima bring context. Materials, colors and mountainous lines also deserve attention that exceeds famous photography.

Lima, Cusco and the Sacred Valley

A first track connects Lima to a longer stay around Cusco. The capital deserves some time chosen for its neighborhoods, collections and tables. The andin stay should then maintain a progressive pace, with daily effort and clearly understood organization.

Pisac and Ollantaytambo win to be replaced in the context of the Sacred Valley. Joining Machu Picchu involves a specific organization, depending on access and visits selected. A readable step is better than several distant discoveries added in a day already occupied by a link.

Another Andean region or a gateway to the Amazon

Arequipa and the Colca region make up a second axis, with a different architecture and landscapes. This direction requires time and should not only extend the list of places. The height, roads and intensity of the days participate in the coherent construction of the whole.

Tambopata can open a forest extension, with a different medium and a different rhythm. Several nights allow you to enjoy the place and the exits. Animals remain free: the experience also relates to sounds, rivers and reading accompanied by the landscape, without a guaranteed encounter.

The order of stops

Changes in height and trails affect comfort. The progress is thought before booking a succession of addresses or isolated activities whose names appear complementary on a map.

Archaeology, museum and local life do not meet the same desires. Choosing a few themes gives depth without imposing a new big visit at every moment of the stay.

About 15 days are a possible basis for a first discovery with clear priorities. With less time, Lima and the Cusco region can be enough. Forest, coast or other Andine region should keep their own nights, without reducing the main stages to a simple passage.

Bolivia can extend an adequate and long-term Andin project, with a suitable progress. It does not replace the deepening of Peru. The archaeological north or coastal landscapes can also become full-fledged trips for a return, with a different pace and new discoveries.
