Angkor opens an exceptional door to the Khmer history, without telling himself the whole of Cambodia. Cities, markets, counties and landscapes of Mékong bring other perspectives. The journey gains to leave a place in these moments, beyond the great visits and without having to fill every hour of an activity.
Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and Battambang do not discover each other in the same way. The first allows radiation to Angkor; the capital calls for a historical and urban reading; Battambang opens to another city and countryside atmosphere. The meeting requires a clear thread and enough nights.

Angkor and the landscapes around Siem Reap
Several times of discovery allow to vary the sites and atmospheres of Angkor. Angkor Wat, the temples of Angkor Thom and the other sets do not reduce to one image. Explained and interrupted visits of pauses can bring more than a very dense journey, made in heat and fatigue.
The surroundings of Siem Reap complement the heritage with another reading of the territory. Campaigns and landscapes near the Tonlé Sap are chosen according to local conditions and water level. A village discovery should not promise neither a fixed life scene nor a private meeting organized for the visitors.
Cities and less-expected heritage
Battambang or a step around Sambor Prei Kuk can enrich a broader route before or after Phnom Penh. We need to select what really expands the look: architecture, craftsmanship, urban life and agricultural landscapes require different times. Their interest is not measured by the number of names added.
In Phnom Penh, history and contemporary life deserve a time of approach. Some memories may be challenging; their place must take into account the expectations and the age of the travellers. A slower end of stay can then be considered, without automatically adding a remote coastal step to an already dense circuit.
Plan your time at Angkor
Choice of sites, schedules, pauses and trips describe the visit better than a simple number of days. They allow to discover the heritage without undergoing its scale.
Respect the places
The temple remains heritage and sometimes practice spaces. Usages, access and instructions guide the discoveries, without searching for image at the expense of people.

A dozen days can associate Angkor with a few additional steps; two weeks give more flexibility. Rain and water levels influence some discoveries. The period must correspond to the selected regions, without promising identical landscapes or access throughout the year.

Cambodia can be discovered alone or connected to Laos or Vietnam when duration and transportation give meaning to the whole. It deserves more than a short break between two flights. The accompanied and over-made programs provide content to be compared precisely.
