See polar bears in Svalbard
Enter a world that does not belong to us.
Enter a world that does not belong to us.
A clear silhouette on an immense coast: the emotion is also born from the distance. Discovering the territory of the polar bear means looking at an entire ecosystem, not organizing a pursuit.
Where can you enjoy this experience?
The Svalbard archipelago, along with an enclosed discovery of its coasts and landscapes. No fixed observation site is promised.

Three ways into the experience.
Observe a territory
Glaces, coasts and reliefs tell the bear’s living conditions.
Look for the details
Sea birds, mordes or fjord lights enrich the discovery, according to meetings.
Accept the distance
A beautiful observation leaves the animal the necessary space.
Discover polar bear territory, with the Arctic offering more than a single encounter
In Svalbard, the scale of the landscape changes expectations. A beach of graviers, a glacier front or a banquise band may seem empty, and then reveal a small presence in the field of twins. It is this attention to the territory that gives its depth to the journey. The bear is part of a medium where distances and waiting count; it is not a date that can be caused.
Choosing an expedition is also to choose a way to look. Some travellers like to spend long beaches on the bridge, while others are especially looking for a first reading of the polar environments. The quality of the explanations, the spaces of observation and the possibility of rest deserve a place in the decision, beyond the animal images of the brochure.
A first discovery of the archipelago
Longyearbyen can be an entrance to the history of Svalbard before a navigation: the carbon relationship, scientific research and life in the Upper Arctic repairs landscapes into a human context. Land discoveries are chosen within the permitted framework, without assimilating a urban walk to an independent output in full nature.
The project is based on the Maritime Programme. Prefer a description of the days on board, the planned sectors and the conditional activities. This approach is suitable for those who want to understand the archipelago as a whole: reliefs, birds, glaces, human traces and possible fauna, without making the memory of a single species dependent.
Give more time to sailing
A project aimed at the marine landscapes can dedicate most of the stay to life on the sea. This option allows you to settle in the rhythm of the edge and look at the coasts longer. It does not constitute a guarantee of animal proximity: road decisions are subject to the conditions and the authorized team.
Before you keep this format, ask which part of the trip corresponds to the shipping and which part takes place in the archipelago. A relaxed cabin, easy access to common spaces and meals that are compatible with your habits participate in the experience. The feeling of expedition does not dismiss a concrete review of everyday life.
Observation from the deck
Personal twins and a place where to stay comfortable change the pleasure of waiting. Remote observation can reveal behaviors without the need to approach the ship.
Choosing the explanations
The proposed interpretation on board helps to distinguish a glacier formation, a bird colony or the traces of an ancient activity. Check what is actually in the program.
The group's expectations
A person passionate about photography and another attracted to contemplation don’t necessarily organize their time in the same way. This means that you can choose a rhythm that is suitable for everyone.
Animals may be absent from the visible path, distant or impossible to observe in good conditions. Designing a stay whose landscapes, history and navigation already have a strong value allows you to address this uncertainty with a fair expectation. It is never about organizing a close search or a pursuit of the bear.
The dream deserves thoughtful preparation.
These signs serve to build the stay. The durations are work tracks, not packages marketed.
When to go?
The navigation season depends on the ice and the scheduled schedule. Summer cruises offer a different look than winter trips, without a meeting guarantee.
To whom is this experience addressed?
Curious travellers of fauna and polar environments, who agree to observe from a distance and to change their expectations.
What physical level to expect?
Transfers, ships and possible landings require accessibility checking. Cold and irregular ground can make a short walk demanding.
What equipment to prepare?
Clothes, hot layers and rain/wind protection. To photograph, prefer a focal that allows you to stay away; the safety equipment belongs to the authorized team.
How many days to predict?
The duration depends on the choice of navigation and connections. Compare the actual number of days in the archipelago rather than a simple total of nights.
What precautions should we know?
Never approach, attract or follow a bear. Respect regulatory distances and professional decisions. Do not go out of the populated areas alone; polar security does not improve.
Turn that inspiration into a well-balanced journey.
We do not present this journey as a bear safari: the official Svalbard instructions prohibit disturbing or pursuing it. The interest of the journey must be held even without meeting.
What we will consider together
The choice of the vessel, the boarding, navigation times and authorized activities is more important than a promise of proximity to an animal.
What can you combine this experience with?
Navigation to Svalbard, glaciers and discovery of Longyearbyen as part of the chosen program.
