Following rivers, villages and plateaus

The Laos is discovered by small scenes: a market, a street of Luang Prabang, a landscape from a shore, and then the quietness of a village at the end of the day. The rivers structure a part of the journey, but not all regions are travelled by boat. Each sector calls its own organization.

North and South have two additional readings. Temples, ancient houses and calcair reliefs make up the surroundings of Luang Prabang. More south, Bolovens, Champassak and the Mekong Islands open other atmospheres. Choosing them separately can give a deeper discovery than a crossroads where travel absorbs the majority of the days.

Luang Prabang and an extension into northern landscapes

Luang Prabang deserves several times of discovery, between heritage, kitchen and waterfront walks. Religious places and daily practices are looked at with discretion. Their interest does not depend on an organized scene: pauses, markets and neighborhoods can give even significant moments.

A step towards Nong Khiaw can bring more affirmed valleys and reliefs. The comfort of the accommodation and travel must be specified. A water-out and a walk on a path are not interchangeable; access, local conditions and your desire to walk will guide the selection.

Champassak, the Bolaven Plateau and the southern Mekong

Around Paksé, the Bolovens plateau offers landscapes of plantations and cascades. Champassak adds a heritage dimension with Vat Phou and the vicinity of the Mekong. The nights must be distributed to appreciate these contrasts, avoiding each discovery involving a long connection from the same base.

The Four Thousand Islands sector invites to a more posed pace, between shores and organized life around the river. Water levels and seasonal conditions influence the possibilities. The island and accommodation are selected for their real atmosphere, with flexibility for the exits and moments of rest.

North or South first

A short stay can focus on Luang Prabang and a complementary step, or prefer the South. A reduced perimeter can give more depth.

Agree on transport

Train, road and boat do not provide the same comfort. Correspondences, access to accommodation and baggage management are prepared with the real path.

Markets and villages remain living places. The context, possible exchanges and local usages premiate, without promised access to a ceremony or a private house.
